We construct nonstandard finite difference schemes to solve general and special types of ordinary differential equations, with an emphasis on the order of these methods. The advantage of these nonstandard methods is that they preserve some property for every possible choice of the step size. Our goal is to construct higher-order schemes by combining these ideas with strong stability preserving (SSP) methods.
